Washington, DC through the Eyes of a Local "Tourist"
Washington, DC. So many people visit this great city each year. They wander the National Mall, staring in awe at the sites of the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials. They pour into Smithsonian’s. They cheer at sporting events and concerts. They indulge in fine dining from some of the country’s top chefs.
Honestly, living so close to the city for so long began to desensitized me to its power. I found myself unphased by the Washington Monument and Capitol Dome in my rearview mirror. I spent more time annoyed with bridge traffic then admiring the historical sites I approached. I straight up refused to enter the city on major holidays or big event days due to the crowds. I guess I had officially become a “local”. But here’s the deal, every city has its positives and negatives, and if we direct our attention to the negatives, we miss out on some pretty magnificent things.
So, I made a promise to myself: to rediscover DC. The good, the bad (hopefully not too bad), the weird, and the unexplainable. And guess who gets to reap the rewards…YOU!
